Zinc mines in Hunan’s Huayuan country resumed production from safety inspections recently, SMM learned.

SHANGHAI, Jun. 24 (SMM) - Zinc mines in Hunan’s Huayuan country resumed production from safety inspections recently, SMM learned.

Local mines suspended production across the board in late May. Their mining operation is now recovering, while beneficiation plants will restart in late June, SMM understands.

"Closures at these mines gave a significant impact on local zinc smelters, but effects on the overall market was limited given soft demand and stable domestic zinc inventories."said one SMM zinc analyst.

Huayuan’s zinc concentrate capacity is around 250,000 tonne per year, but annual output was around 150,000 tonnes over the past two years due to the languishing market and environmental protection and safety inspections.
