Opening of G20 Summit to Affect Zinc Downstream Producers around Yangtze River Delta, SMM Says

SHANGHAI, Jun. 22 (SMM) - As the G20 Summit is to be held in Hangzhou in September, major zinc downstream producers around the Yangtze River Delta, including Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui and Jiangxi, will be disrupted by environmental protection inspections, SMM reports.

“Zhejiang will suffer from strict environmental protection inspections before the G20 Summit. Its Ningbo, Yiwu, Yuyao and Wenzhou have an agglomeration of die-cast zinc alloy plants, and there are a large number of galvanizers in Hangzhou’s Xiaoshan,” SMM zinc analyst said. “We learned that some die-cast zinc alloy plants and galvanizers in Wenzhou, Ningbo and Xiaoshan have been affected.”

“Production at polishing plants, crude zinc producers, die-cast zinc alloy producers and galvanizers in the five provinces will be restricted,” the analyst added. “This will constrain zinc consumption.”

Zhejiang, Shanghai and Jiangsu consume 860,000 tonnes, 300,000 tonnes and 600,000 tonnes of zinc each year.
