Gansu Province has discovered 77 large and medium mining areas since 2011 when its ore survey move debuted, sina.com reports.

SHANGHAI, Jun. 16 (SMM) - Gansu Province has discovered 77 large and medium mining areas since 2011 when its ore survey move debuted, sina.com reports.

With total investment of 11.73 billion yuan, 32 large and 45 medium mining areas were found, which contain coal, copper, lead, zinc, gold, iron, niobium and tantalum reserves.

SMM: Global Zinc Concentrate Supply-Demand Pattern Analysis and Outlook - When Will TCs Rebound After Hitting Record Lows?

At the 2026 SMM Lead & Zinc Annual Conference - Main Forum hosted by SMM Information & Technology Co., Ltd. (SMM), SMM Senior Analyst Li Hanyu shared insights on "SMM Global Zinc Concentrate Supply-Demand Pattern Analysis and Outlook." She noted that looking ahead over the next few years, SMM expects that as mines in China and ex-China reach a peak in commissioning and ex-China adds larger new capacity, the tight supply of global zinc concentrates will ease relatively in 2027. However, with more disruptions at mines in China and ex-China, supply-demand fluctuation risks remain, and the global zinc concentrate supply-demand balance is expected to stay in tight balance from 2027 to 2030. On TCs, SMM expects China zinc concentrate TCs to fall sharply YoY in 2026, dropping from nearly 3,000 yuan/mt in 2025 to negative territory. Looking ahead to 2027, SMM expects China zinc concentrate TCs to show a low-then-high trend, with the tight zinc concentrate supply easing slightly from Q2 2027, potentially driving a rebound in TCs, though actual mine capacity delivery still needs to be monitored.
