NEW YORK (Scrap Register): US HR coil prices slipped to $607 a short ton during the week ended May 20, while major US steel scrap commodities prices on Scrap Register Price Index continued to remain flat.

US Midwest HRC prices took a breather the week from the recent price surge, edging a few dollars lower from one-week ago to close at $607 a short ton FOB Mill.

Transactions were largely stable despite the news of substantial duties on imported CRC from China and Japan and the possible impact this may have upstream in HRC markets.

It may yet be too early to assess the effects of the US Dept of Commerce’s decision, though Platts did report earlier today that USSPOSCO Inc. raised list prices for sheet steel by US$150/s. ton effective immediately.

However, the prices of major steel scrap commodities like #1 HMS, #1/#2 HMS 80/20 and steel casting also reported almost flat on Scrap Register US Price Index during the week.
