LONDON (Scrap Register): Northern Europe hot rolled cold (HRC) steel prices continued to advance by €3 a ton week-on-week to €419 per ton in the week ended May 20, as per the latest figures released by The Steel Index.
European steel prices remained stable this week amid subdued market activity. The majority of HRC trades in the North European market were observed in a wide €410-430 a ton range, and TSI’s benchmark index ticked up to €419 a ton.
While mills’ offers were reported between €440-450 a ton, only a limited amount of deals were heard to be done at this higher level.
South European HRC prices remained close to the €420 a ton mark with producers’ asking prices in the €420-430 a ton range, showing little fluctuation after a price jump at the beginning of the month.
HRC import offers heard this week were between €445- 460 a ton CFR Antwerp.
