Taiwan Ferrous Scrap imports plummet during Q1 2016

Taiwan ferrous scrap imports plummeted by 47% year-on-year to 650,593 tons during the first quarter of this year.

TAIPEI (Scrap Register): Taiwan ferrous scrap imports plummeted by 47% year-on-year to 650,593 tons during the first quarter of this year, as compared to 1.225 million tons last year, as per the latest figures from the Taiwan Directorate General of Customs.

Japan was the largest exporter of ferrous scrap to Taiwan during January to March this year followed by United States and Hong Kong. Taiwan has imported its 40% of ferrous scrap from Japan, while US and Hong Kong exported 36.7% and 17.5% of scrap respectively.

Taiwan's ferrous scrap imports from Japan plummeted by 43.7% to 256,465 tons during the first quarter of this year, as compared to 455,265 tons last year.

The steel scrap imports from United States reached 238,965 tons during January to March this year, decline drastically by 39% as compared to 391,871 tons. The imports from Hong Kong were down by 17.5% year-on-year to 52,435 tons during the first quarter of 2016.
