Restarted Aluminum Capacity Far from Enough to Fill Supply Gap in China, SMM Reports

Aluminum capacity restarts in China will continue increasing, but far from enough to fill in the supply gap caused by massive closures late last year, SMM understands.

SHANGHAI, Jun. 6 (SMM) –Aluminum capacity restarts in China will continue increasing, but far from enough to fill in the supply gap caused by massive closures late last year, SMM understands.

SMM estimates the amounts of restarted aluminum capacity in China at 400,000-500,000 tonnes during June-July. The amount of new aluminum capacity will depend on aluminum price movement.

As of June 2, aluminum stocks in China’s five major markets were down some 200,000 tonnes from the end of April and down as much as 714,000 tonnes from the same period last year, SMM statistics showed.

[SMM Tin Flash News: Samsung Reportedly Collaborates with NVIDIA to Accelerate R&D of Next-Generation NAND Flash Memory]
According to reports, Samsung Electronics is working with NVIDIA to accelerate the development of next-generation NAND flash memory chips. A joint research team comprising the Samsung Semiconductor Research Institute, NVIDIA, and the Georgia Institute of Technology has successfully developed a "physics-informed neural operator" model. This model analyzes the performance of ferroelectric-based NAND devices more than 10,000 times faster than existing models, and the related results have been made public. Based on these research findings, Samsung is collaborating with NVIDIA to develop and commercialize ferroelectric NAND flash memory.
