US Raw Steel production advances 3.1% to 1,756,000 net tons

United States domestic raw steel production advanced by 3.1% year-on-year to 1,756,000 net tons in the week ended May 21.

NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States domestic raw steel production advanced by 3.1% year-on-year to 1,756,000 net tons in the week ended May 21, while the capability utilization rate was 75.1 percent, as per the latest figures from American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

According to AISI, production was 1,704,000 net tons in the week ended May 21, 2015 while the capability utilization then was 72.1 percent.

Production for the week ended May 21, 2016 is up 1.7 percent from the previous week ending May 14, 2016 when production was 1,727,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 73.9 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through May 21, 2016 was 35,240,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 71.8 percent. That is down 1.0 percent from the 35,603,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 71.6 percent.
