Chinese Aluminum Scrap prices edged higher on Index 20th May, 2016

The Chinese Scrap Aluminum market edged higher on Friday, May 20th. Also, Stainless Steel scrap prices held steady when compared with the day before.

BEIJING (Scrap Monster): The Chinese Aluminum scrap prices increased marginally on the Scrap Monster Price Index on May 20th, Friday.

6063 Extrusions witnessed a rise of CNY 100 per MT over the previous day. Aluminum Radiators and Transformers prices too were up by CNY 50 per MT each over the previous day. E.C Aluminum Wire prices jumped higher by CNY 150 per MT to touch CNY 12,450 per MT. Old Cast prices increased by CNY 150 per MT. The prices of Aluminum Radiators and Old Sheet witnessed rise of CNY 50 per MT and CNY 150 per MT respectively. UBC and Zorba 90% INF prices too were up by CNY 100 per MT each.

Meanwhile, Brass Radiator prices witnessed no price change when matched with the day before. Red Brass and Yellow Brass prices too held steady.

Stainless steel scrap prices were unchanged on the Index.

201 SS prices held steady at CNY 2,950 per MT.

The prices of 304 SS Solid, 304 SS Turning and 309 SS remained flat.

310 SS prices held steady at CNY 14,350 per MT on May 20th, 2016.

316 SS Solid and Shred SS prices too witnessed no change in prices.

South Korea to Exempt Tariffs on Overseas-Sourced Critical Minerals
On the 25th, it was confirmed that the South Korean government will exempt tariffs of 3–8% on critical minerals such as lithium, graphite, and rare earth elements when domestically owned companies directly produce and import them from overseas. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy has pre-announced a new regulation outlining tariff exemptions for overseas resource development projects. Under the policy, a total of 14 critical minerals—including lithium, graphite, nickel, cobalt, manganese, copper, zinc, and rare earth elements such as lanthanum, cerium, neodymium, terbium, dysprosium, yttrium, and scandium—will be eligible for duty exemption when brought into the country. The regulation is set to take effect on April 3.
