TAIPEI (Scrap Register): Prices for containerized Taiwanese imports of HMS # 1&2 80:20 continued to rose significantly to $293 a ton during the week ended April 29, as per the latest figures from The Steel Index.
According to TSI, prices for containerized Taiwanese imports of HMS #1&2 80:20 surged $25 a ton to $293 a ton CFR Taiwanese port during the week.
Prices of imported ISRI grade scrap reached their peak mid-week but since then transactions have come to a halt. After a turbulent start to the week, some mills in Taiwan were bidding at low price levels, however, most suppliers were not willing to accept these prices and sentiment on future price direction differed amongst participants.
Domestically, most mills were still accepting rebar orders but were limiting their volumes as scrap supply will continue to be the main concern for Taiwanese mills.
