BRUSSELS (Scrap Monster):  The ferrous scrap exports out of the Netherlands dropped significantly during the calendar year 2015. The exports registered decline for the third straight year. Also, the exports during 2015 dropped to the lowest level in past ten years. This is in accordance with the latest export statistics released by Eurostat.

The scrap exports out of the country totaled 4.394 Million tons during the entire year 2015. The exports during the year have dropped by 5.6%, upon comparison with the exports of 4.657 Million tons during 2014. Incidentally, 2014 scrap exports by the Netherlands had reported decline when compared with the year before that. The Netherlands had exported 4.823 Million tons of ferrous scrap during the entire calendar year 2013.

Key importers

The largest importer of ferrous scrap from the Netherlands during 2015 was Turkey. The imports by Turkey totaled 1.360 Million tons during the year, accounting for 30.9% share of ferrous scrap exports by the Netherlands. The Turkish imports from the country surged higher by 5.5% when compared with the imports of 1.289 Million tons during the entire calendar year 2015. The second largest importer of ferrous scrap from the Netherlands was Germany. Germany’s imports have dropped sharply by 15.2% over the previous year to 684,906 tons. In third place was Belgium with imports of 578,992 tons, constituting 13.2% market share. The ferrous scrap imports by Belgium dropped considerably by 34.3% year-on-year. The top three destinations together accounted for nearly 60% of the total.
