SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): According to the Copper and Brass Fabricators Council (CBFC), the imports of brass mill products by the US during the month of February this year have increased over the previous year. The exports too surged during the month.

Feb ’16 imports

According to data, the US imports of brass mill products during February this year totaled 34.296 million lb, higher by almost 1% when compared with 34.054 million lb imports registered during February 2015.

The main exporter of brass mill products to the US during February was Germany. The total imports from Germany during the month totaled 7.445 million lb. Mexico followed Germany with total exports to US amounting to 4.594 million lb. In third place was South Korea. The brass mill products imports by the US from South Korea totaled 4.167 million lb during the month. The other key exporters were Canada (3.751 million lb) and Vietnam (2.737 million lb).

Product-wise imports

Imports of all sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 10.603 million lb in February. All pipe and tube products imports totaled 14.147 million lb. Imports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 6.844 million lb. Copper alloy wire imports totaled 2.702 million lb.

Feb ’16 exports

In accordance with the data released by the CBFC, the US exports of brass mill products totaled 37.184 million lb in February this year, 79% higher from the exports of 20.803 million lb during February 2015.

The key export destination for US brass mill products during Feb ’16 was Mexico. The exports to Mexico totaled 25.255 million lb. The other key importers during the month were Canada (4.983 million lb), China (990,593 lb), Saudi Arabia (843,771 lb) and Germany (594,466 lb).

Product-wise exports

Exports of all sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 7.843 million lb in February 2016. All pipe and tube products exports totaled 3.434 million lb. Exports of all profiles, rods and bars totaled 23.330 million lb. Copper alloy wire exports totaled 2.577 million lb.

Cumulative imports and exports

The cumulative brass mill products import by the US during the initial two-month period of 2016 amounted to 67.828 million lb. Also, cumulative brass mill products exports by the US during Jan-Feb ’16 amounted to 55.060 million lb, significantly higher by 34% from the exports of 41.059 million lb during the corresponding two-month period of 2015.
