Nickel Output Fall at Global Top 10 Producers in 1Q 2016

Nickel output at world’s top 10 nickel producers fell during the first quarter of 2016 both on a quarterly and yearly basis, down 5.11 per cent and 0.74 per cent, respectively.

SHANGHAI, May 11 (SMM) – Nickel output at world’s top 10 nickel producers fell during the first quarter of 2016 both on a quarterly and yearly basis, down 5.11 per cent and 0.74 per cent, respectively. 

During 1Q 2016, nickel output was 290,800 tonnes (Ni content) at global top 10 nickel producers, according to data compiled by SMM. 

Of the top 10 producers, BHP Billiton registered the biggest quarter-on-quarter increase in output, up 31.58 per cent to 20,000 tonnes, while Norilsk Nickel posted the largest drop in output on a quarterly basis, down 12.42 per cent to 63,600 tonnes. 

Measured on a yearly basis, Anglo American saw the biggest output increase, up 67.16 per cent to 11,200 tonnes, while Jinchuan Group cut the most, down 18.34 per cent to 32,500 tonnes. 

To sum up, Norilsk Nickel, Jinchuan Group, Sumitomo and Sherritt reported declines in output both on a quarterly and yearly basis, and Glencore, Eramet and Anglo American saw increases in output both on a quarterly and yearly basis.
