SHANGHAI, May 10 (SMM) – Aluminum smelters in China were bothered by higher costs in April, SMM survey found.
Average cost at smelters in SMM’s survey sample increased 1.5% month-on-month in April.
Rising alumina and coal prices, as well as power tariff subsidy cuts all contributed to higher costs, SMM explained.
There is still room for alumina prices to rise for the foreseeable future, so smelters will face even higher costs in May, SMM expects.
