China Battery Imports Post Gains in March

Lead-acid battery imports in China registered growth in March this year, Customs reported.

SHANGHAI, May 3 (SMM) – Lead-acid battery imports in China registered growth in March this year, Customs reported.

The imports totaled 897,600 pieces in March, up 93.20% month-on-month and 34.17% year-on-year. Of which, ignition battery claimed 233,200 pieces, rising 41.22% MoM, and other type of batteries accounted for 664,400 pieces, gaining 121.86% MoM.

After the 2016 Chinese New Year holiday came to an end, auto sales and production increased more than 50% MoM in March and this drove up demand for automotive batteries. The construction of communication equipment also returned to normal in March and overseas processors also increase imports of batteries.

Lead-acid battery imports were up 1.70% YoY to 1.96 million pieces during January-March.
