MELBOURNE (Scrap Monster): According to latest data published by World Steel Association, the crude steel production by Oceania region declined marginally by 5.3% during the month of March ‘16 year-on-year. The total output by the region dropped from 403,000 tonnes in March last year to 382,000 tonnes during Mar ‘16.

The total crude steel production by Australia during March this year was 340,000 tonnes, marginally higher by 1.7% when compared with the production of 334,000 tonnes during same month a year ago. New Zealand produced 42,000 tonnes of crude steel, considerably lower by 39.2% when compared with the production of 69,000 tonnes achieved during March last year.

The total crude steel production by Australia during February this year was 390,000 tonnes, marginally lower by 2.9% when compared with the production of 402,000 tonnes during same month a year ago. New Zealand produced 39,000 tonnes of crude steel, considerably lower by nearly 39% when compared with the production of 64,000 tonnes achieved during February last year.

The crude steel output by Oceania region was down 12% during the initial three-month period of the year. The output totaled 1.202 million tonnes, when matched with the output of 1.366 million tonnes during the corresponding three-month period in 2015.

The following table provides country-wise cumulative crude steel output for the first three months in 2016 in comparison with those during same period in 2015.
