EU-28 crude steel production dropped by 9% in March

CANTERBURY (Scrap Monster): According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association (World steel), the crude steel production by EU-28 countries declined by 8.7% during the month of March year-on-year. The output by the region totaled 14.124 Million tonnes during the month.

Germany recorded the highest output during the month of March. The country produced 3.811 Million tonnes during the month, which is slightly lower by 1.6% when compared with the country’s output of 3.872 Million tonnes during March 2015. On a year-on-year basis, Poland recorded the biggest jump in production. The crude steel output by Poland surged higher to 860,000 tonnes when matched with the production of 818,000 tonnes during the same month a year before. The Croatian output plunged to nil during the month. Apart from that, Bulgarian crude steel production plunged heavily by 59.8% in comparison with March last year.

Czech Republic, Finland, Netherlands and Poland recorded increased year-on-year crude steel production. On the other hand, production declined sharply in other countries including France, Greece, Hungary and the UK.

The following table provides cumulative crude steel output for the first three months in 2016 in comparison with those during same period in 2015.
