India will initiate safeguard investigation into imports of unwrought aluminum upon applications from local aluminum smelters, the China Trade Remedy Information reported.

SHANGHAI, Apr. 26 (SMM) – India will initiate safeguard investigation into imports of unwrought aluminum upon applications from local aluminum smelters, the China Trade Remedy Information reported.  

The applicants, including Vedanta limited–Aluminium & Power, Bharat Aluminium Company Ltd. and Hindalco Industries Limited, proposed to impose 4-year safeguard tax on products involved. 

According to India’s customs data, the country’s imports of unwrought aluminum surged from 242,533 tonnes during 2011-2012 to annualized 432,370 tonnes during 2015-2016.
