SHANGHGI (Scrap Register): Chinese copper scrap imports advanced sharply by 76% month-on-month to 300 kilo tons during March this year, as per the latest figures from the Custom Data.
However, Chinese copper scrap imports dropped by 39 kilo tons to 742 kilo tons during the first quarter of this year as compared to 781 kilo tons in the same period last year.
Chinese copper concentrate imports shot up by 33% year-on-year to 4,000 kilo tons during first quarter of this year as compared with 3,008 kilo tons in the same period last year. In March, Chinese copper concentrate imports down by 6% month-on-month and 4% year-on-year to 1,370 kilo tons.
According to Barclays, the recovery in demand for refined copper is quite striking. The underlying demand is expected to have mainly driven the solid figures for import.
