SAN DIEGO (Scrap Monster): The City of San Diego’s Environmental Services Department (ESD) has named Kyocera Communications, Inc. as the “2016 Recycler of the Year”. The award is in recognition of the company’s local and international environmental initiatives in recycling and waste reduction efforts.

“Kyocera has a global philosophy and commitment to social responsibility, and here in San Diego, we strive to set a strong example,” said Chuck Becher, vice president and general manager of sales and marketing at Kyocera Communications. “We believe the stewardship of San Diego’s environment is the responsibility of the companies who conduct business here, and we are greatly honored to be recognized by the City of San Diego for our leadership and ongoing dedication to environmental initiatives.”

The company has recycled 92% of the waste generated during the fiscal that ended March 31st, 2016. Recently, the company had launched a nationwide cell phone recycling program in partnership with SecondWave Recycling. The recycling initiative is aimed to reduce the environmental impacts caused by improper disposal of ell-phones. At the same time, it also raises funds for ‘Cell Phones for Soldiers’- a non-profit organization that helps veterans and on-duty personnel to get connected to their families.

This is the ninth time that Kyocera has been named as Recycler of the Year. The company has now received recycling award from the City of San Diego for sixteen years in a row.

Kyocera Corporation, the parent and global headquarters of the Kyocera Group, was founded in 1959 as a producer of fine ceramics. By combining these engineered materials with metals and integrating them with other technologies, Kyocera has become a leading supplier of solar power generating systems, mobile phones, printers, copiers, electronic components, semiconductor packages, cutting tools and industrial ceramics.

Lead prices were in the doldrums, while secondary lead smelters maintained firm offers due to losses. The mainstream spot order ex-factory prices including tax narrowed the discount to the SMM #1 lead average price by 100 yuan/mt, shifting to a premium of 0–25 yuan/mt, with some smelters halting offers and sales.

Pre-holiday stockpiling by downstream enterprises had largely concluded, and a few had already entered the holiday period, completely suspending procurement. Next week, secondary lead smelters will enter a concentrated wave of production halts and holidays, resulting in sluggish trading activity in the spot market. Offers for spot refined lead orders were sparse, with prices moving in line with the market.

The domestic secondary crude lead market experienced sluggish transactions. As of February 6, 2026, the ex-factory tax-exclusive offers for domestic secondary crude lead stood at 15,250-15,400 yuan/mt. Downstream refined lead and alloy smelters gradually entered the holiday period, showing weak stockpiling willingness. Overseas lead ingot suppliers basically halted transactions with China due to poor consumption in the Chinese market, with only some previously concluded shipments maintaining normal in-transit transportation. The trading atmosphere in the secondary crude lead market will continue to weaken next week.
