China Zinc Concentrate TCs Hold Largely Stable

SHANGHAI, Apr. 22 (SMM) –TCs of domestic zinc concentrate (50%) stabilized at 5,200-5,400 yuan per tonne (zinc content) this past week, and those for imported zinc concentrate (50%) were $110-130 per dry metric tonne (DMT), according to SMM data.

SMM understands some mines plan to restart as zinc prices hovered at highs this week, but a large number of mines still take a wait-and-see posture. Mines sold more actively on higher prices. Supplies, however, remained limited. A few zinc smelters in North China lowered TCs of domestic zinc concentrate by 50 yuan per tonne (zinc content).

Losses from imported ore remained around 1,000 yuan per tonne (zinc content) compared with domestic ore, SMM calculates. Trading was light on weak buying interest and limited goods available.

Domestic zinc concentrate supply is expected to grow thanks to warmer weather and higher zinc prices, SMM says.
