SHANGHAI, Apr. 21 (SMM) – In 1Q 2016, Vale S.A. (Vale) reported the highest first quarter production of iron ore in the company’s history, according to its e-mail to SMM.
Vale’s iron ore production, including third party purchases and excluding Samarco’s attributable production, was 77.5 million tonnes in 1Q 2016, a record for the company’s first quarter production.
But, the output was 10.9 million tonnes lower than in 4Q 2015 due to weather-related seasonality, but 0.1 million tonnes higher than in 1Q 2015.
Average Fe content decreased slightly from 63.7 per cent in 4Q 2015 to 63.5 per cent in 1Q 2016 due to mine plan adjustments in the Southern and Southeastern systems as a response to the increase in market premiums for Vale’s iron ore fines with higher silica content.
