SHANGHAI, Apr. 14 (SMM) – TCs of domestic zinc concentrate will remain steady in the near term as domestic zinc concentrate supplies are expected to grow thanks to warmer weather, says SMM.

Zinc prices leapt this week. SMM understands some mines having suspended production due to price factor plan to restart should zinc prices stabilize around 15,000 yuan per tonne. Domestic zinc concentrate supply tightened slightly as zinc smelters preferred to buy domestic ore. 

Losses from imported ore expanded 190 yuan to 1,000 yuan per tonne (zinc content) compared with domestic ore, SMM calculates. Trading was limited since imported ore was unpopular with domestic zinc smelters against low TCs. Traded prices were high.

TCs of domestic zinc concentrate (50%) stabilized at 5,200-5,400 yuan per tonne (zinc content) this past week, and those for imported zinc concentrate (50%) were $110-130 per dry metric tonne (DMT), according to SMM data.
