China’s aluminum output has not yet broken out of negative growth territory, SMM data showed.

SHANGHAI, Apr. 14 (SMM) – China’s aluminum output has not yet broken out of negative growth territory, SMM data showed.

The country’s aluminum output fell 3% year-on-year to 2.53 million tonnes in March. Output totaled 7.36 million tonnes during Q1, also down 2.9% from a year ago.

While some smelters have resumed production recently, lured by continuous price recovery, and some others will put online new capacity, the actual output contribution will be limited, SMM aluminum analyst Liu Xiaolei noted.
