US Raw Steel output holds steady; 8.4% drop in Great Lakes region offsets gains

The US weekly raw steel output held steady, rising marginally by 0.4% during the week ended April 9th, 2016.

ALBANY (Scrap Monster): As per the statistics released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), the raw steel production by the country remained more or less steady with marginal 0.4% gain during the week ending April 9th, 2016. The gains in other regions were offset by 8.4% decline in output by Great Lakes region. The production had declined by 1.5% during the week prior to this.

The total domestic raw steel output during the week ending April 9th was 1,656,000 net tons. The AISI data indicates that the US raw steel production has increased slightly by 0.4% during the week. This is in comparison with the previous week (ie., the week ended Apr 2nd)  production figures of 1,650,000 net tons. Also, the weekly output represents marginal improvement of 0.4% in comparison with production of 1,649,000 net tons during same week the previous year.

The capability utilization rate of US steel makers increased slightly to 70.8% during the week ended Apr 9th, 2016.

The capacity utilization rate has gone higher when compared with 70.6% during the previous week (ie., the week ending April 2nd). However, capacity utilization was higher when compared with the rate of 69.8% during same week the previous year.
