SHANGHAI, Apr. 12 (SMM) – Aluminum smelters in China were bothered by higher costs in March, especially from alumina, SMM survey found.

Average cost at smelters surveyed by SMM rose 3.3% month-on-month in March, driven mainly by 9.6% increase in alumina costs, according to SMM statistics.

Looking ahead at April, alumina prices will not see big gains along with growing supply, SMM predicts. Rising coal prices in March will pass through to power costs at smelters, though.
