The New Caledonian government has approved exports of low grade nickel ore to China, a move to offset loss of exports to Australia.

SHANGHAI, Apr. 6 (SMM) - The New Caledonian government has approved exports of low grade nickel ore to China, a move to offset loss of exports to Australia.  

China Nickel Ore Inventories Continue Falling, SMM Reports

Two companies will be authorized to sell 350,000 tonnes each for a year to China, but have to avoid producers which are in direct competition with New Caledonia's smelters.

In 2015, the country only permitted MKM to export low-grade nickel ore to China, shipping 300,000 tonnes of ore in 18 months to China.
