NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States domestic raw steel production increased by 2.2% year-on-year 1,650,000 net tons in the week ended April 2, while the capability utilization rate was 70.6 percent, as per the latest figures from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
Accoeding to AISI, the raw steel production was 1,615,000 net tons in the week ended April 2, 2015 while the capability utilization then was 68.3 percent.
Production for the week ended April 2, 2016 is down 1.5 percent from the previous week ending March 26, 2016 when production was 1,675,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 71.6 percent.
Adjusted year-to-date production through April 2, 2016 was 23,180,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 70.3 percent. That is down 3.0 percent from the 23,895,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 71.6 percent.
