Chinese copper smelters are looking for higher spot TC/RCs for ore shipments during the second quarter, Shanghai Metals Market reports.

SHANGHAI, Apr. 1 (SMM) – Chinese copper smelters are looking for higher spot TC/RCs for ore shipments during the second quarter, industry insiders said.

Industry news said Thursday that Chinese copper smelters seek for a 12% rise in spot TC/RCs for Q2 shipments, and this will bring up spot TC/RCs to $90-95 per tonne or cents 9-9.5 per lb.

The request for higher TCs is due mainly to the surge in China’s imports of copper concentrate, industry insiders said.

TC/RCs are the fees smelters charge miners for processing concentrates, and as concentrate supply increases, demand for smelting capacity and the charges also rise, creating higher profits for smelters.
