Customs data showed China imported 372,400 mt of alumina in February, up 13.02% YoY, but down 26.63% MoM.

SHANGHAI, Mar. 29 (SMM) – Customs data showed China imported 372,400 mt of alumina in February, up 13.02% YoY, but down 26.63% MoM. Less alumina arrived in China due to holiday factor. Continuous alumina price rise left Chinese buyers cautious about importing. Both factors resulted in the month-on-month decline.

FOB prices of West Australian alumina rose 12.6% MoM in February, and are now approaching USD 250/mt and CIF prices have been raised to USD 255-260/mt. The price increase was driven by rising alumina prices in domestic market thanks to production cuts and rising aluminum prices.
