Pakistan scrap imports soared 23% in January

KARACHI (Scrap Monster): The most recent statistics released by the Pakistan Federal Bureau of Statistics (PFBS) indicates that the country’s scrap imports increased significantly during the month of January this year.

The scrap imports by Pakistan during the month totaled 268,897 tons. The imports soared higher by 22.6% when matched with the previous year. The country had imported 219,329 tons of scrap during January 2015. Meantime, the Jan ’16 imports remained flat when matched with the imports during the previous month.

As per PFBS, the value of scrap imports during the month amounted to approximately $1 billion. The value of imports was up by 2.4% over the previous month. Year-on-year, the import value was up significantly by over 21%. The scrap imports by the country during January last year had amounted to $826 million.

Meantime, the country’s steel imports totaled 271,182 tons during January this year, rising by over 30% when compared with the steel imports during the same month a year before. When matched with the previous month, the steel imports in Jan ’16 were up by 11.4%. The value of steel imports during the month amounted to $1.71 million. The value of imports was up by 4.9% over the previous month. Year-on-year, the import value was up significantly by 14.9%.
