China Battery Firms Rush to Expand Lithium Battery Capacity

SHANGHAI, Mar. 28 (SMM) – Chinese lead-acid battery producers are active in expanding their lithium battery capacities thanks to robust demand from new energy vehicles, SMM learns.

Lithium battery electric bicycle production in China is expected to reach 4.5 million units in 2015 from 3.01 million units in 2014.

Lithium battery capacity at Tianneng Group was 1.25 GWh in 2015 and should be expanded to 2.25 GWh in 2016. Sales volumes for lithium battery products in the company totaled 556 million yuan ($ 85.16 million) in 2015, a year-on-year surge of 209%.

Chaowei Power has three phases’ lithium battery projects under construction at present with total investment over 800 million yuan. Those projects are scheduled to have an annual capacity of 3 GWh.

Camel Group planned to complete construction of 600 million Wh lithium battery capacity in H1 2016.

Shenzhen Center Power Tech planned to build 1billion Wh lithium battery production line, including 700 million Wh of motive lithium battery capacity, 200 million Kw of communication lithium battery capacity and 100 million Wh of storage lithium battery capacity.

Guangdong Dynavolt Power Technology proposed to raise funds of less than 935 million yuan for construction of R&D center of 1 billion Wh of motive lithium battery project and full cell project, as well as energy Internet cloud platform development project.
