Middle East crude steel output down 7% in February

The drop in crude steel output by major producing nations including Iran, Qatar and Saudi Arabia dragged the monthly output by the region during February this year. ​

ABU DHABI (Scrap Monster): According to most recent data published by the World Steel Association (World Steel), the crude steel production by the Middle East region dropped sharply by 7.1% during the month of February ’16 year-on-year. The region’s crude steel output totaled 2.175 Million tonnes during February this year, as compared with 2.342 Million tonnes during the same month a year before.

The total crude steel production by Iran during February was 1.360 Million tonnes, considerably down by 3.4% in comparison with the February 2015 production of 1.409 Million tonnes. Qatar produced 185,000 tonnes of crude steel, sharply lower by 11.5% when compared to 209,000 tonnes production achieved during February 2015. Meantime, Saudi Arabia’s crude steel output dropped sharply over the previous year to 375,000 tonnes during February this year. The total crude steel production by the UAE during February was 255,000 tonnes, significantly higher by 18.2% in comparison with the February 2015 production of 216,000 tonnes.

The cumulative crude steel output by the Middle East region during the initial two months of current year totaled 4.422 Million tonnes, lower by 5.2% when compared with the output of 4.667 Million tonnes during the corresponding two-month period in 2015.

The following table provides cumulative crude steel output for the first two months in 2016 in comparison with those during same period in 2015.
