SHANGHAI, Mar. 17 (SMM) – China is still lacking in qualified and effective lead-acid battery recycling system at present, Zhang Tianren pointed out, one of China NPC representatives and President of Board of Directors at Tianneng Group.
China witnesses more than 3.3 million tonnes of scrap batteries per day while qualified recycling rate is less than 30%. The amount of illegal dumping of lead-containing waste acid increased from 99,500 tonnes in 2008 to nearly 270,000 mt in 2014. The recycling rate at Chinese disqualified smelters is lower at 80%~85% with highest level not exceeding 90%, but usually 95% in foreign countries.
