NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States domestic raw steel production increased by 7.6% year-on-year to 1,722,000 net tons in the week ended March 12, while the capability utilization rate was 73.6 percent, the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
According to AISI, raw steel production was 1,601,000 net tons in the week ended March 12, 2015 while the capability utilization then was 67.7 percent.
Production for the week ended March 12, 2016 is up 2.9 percent from the previous week ended March 5, 2016 when production was 1,673,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 71.5 percent.
Adjusted year-to-date production through March 12, 2016 was 18,187,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 70.1 percent. That is down 4.7 percent from the 19,077,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 72.1 percent.
