China Battery Imports Fall 33.75% MoM in January

China saw lead-acid battery imports at 596,400 pieces in January.

SHANGHAI, Mar. 11 (SMM) – China saw lead-acid battery imports at 596,400 pieces in January, a month-on-month decline of 33.75% but a year-on-year rise of 8.29%, according to China Customs.

Of total imports, ignition battery accounted for 213,900 pieces, gaining 1.65%, and other types of batteries claimed 382, 500 pieces, down 44.55%, both on monthly basis. Top five importers were Zhejiang Johnson Controls, East Penn International (Wujiang) Batteries, FAW-Volkswagen Automotive, Hitachi Storage Battery (Dongguan) and BMW Brilliance Automotive. Zhejiang Johnson Controls contributed 29.29% in total ignition battery imports, the top one importer.

Other types of batteries were mainly used in UPS system and backup power for communication equipment. Fundamental construction suspended gradually in January before coming 2016 Chinese New Year holiday, weighing on demand for such types of batteries.
