BRUSSELS (Scrap Monster):  The World Steel Association (worldsteel) has confirmed participation in Resource 2016 being held in London from 8th to 10th March. The Association will highlight on steel’s contribution to circular economy and its importance in the modern world.

The Association will launch a new publication ‘Steel – the Permanent Material in the Circular Economy’, highlighting steel’s role in enabling sustainable circular economy. According to worldsteel, the industry promotes recycling of steel products at the end of their life, thereby reducing demand for the use of raw materials. By way of encouraging the 4Rs- reducing, reusing, remanufacturing and recycling, the value of raw materials can be maximized. This will also enable conservation of raw materials for future generations and also lead to environmental benefits.

A sustainable circular economy is one in which society reduces the burden on nature by ensuring resources remain in use for as long as possible. As a permanent material, steel is fundamental to achieving a circular economy. It is easy to reduce the weight of steel products, and steel components can be effectively reused, remanufactured or recycled.

Resource 2016 provides a platform for businesses representing the entire supply chain to learn more about the circular economy, meet old and new partners and discover solutions. It features an unrivalled information programme, attracting over 100 leading expert advisors as speakers, 12 in depth unique workshops and around 50 exhibition stands featuring advisors and enablers of circular economy strategies.

The World Steel Association (worldsteel) is one of the largest and most dynamic industry associations in the world. worldsteel members represent approximately 85% of the world's steel production, including over 150 steel producers with 9 of the 10 largest steel companies, national and regional steel industry associations, and steel research institutes.
