BEIJING (Scrap Monster): The recently launched ‘Transform IT’ campaign in Malaysia aims to collect old electronic devices to the benefit of underprivileged communities. The devices collected through the campaign are reused, refurbished and recycled for free.

The campaign is designed by HP in partnership with Heriot-Watt University in Malaysia (HWUM) and and student not-for-profit body AIESEC SU (International Association of Students in Economic and Commercial Sciences) at HWUM. The campaign, launched by SOLS Tech- technological wing of SOLS 24/7 Malaysia, aims to promote the importance of recycling among students and staff members. The students and staff who donate their old devices will earn discounts from HP for purchasing new computers and laptops.

Tim Spijker, chief operating officer of SOLS 24/7 Malaysia welcomed the campaign. Prof. Robert Craik of Heriot-Watt University noted that the campaign is expected to help the University to transform itself into a truly green campus. Stacy Primus Liew of AIESEC SU noted that the students are honored to be part of the programme to improve quality of life of underprivileged communities.

SOLS Tech is a Social Enterprise with the goal of making technology accessible to everyone, especially for underserved communities in Malaysia. It is the technology arm of SOLS 24/7 Malaysia, an award-winning humanitarian organisation, committed to serving, educating and empowering poor and underserved communities through education and empowerment. Since its launch in 2012, it has helped more than 192 organizations and has donated over 5,000 digital devices to the underprivileged in Malaysia.
