Oceania crude steel production drops 6.3% in January

The crude steel production by Oceania region declined sharply during January this year.

CANBERRA (Scrap Monster): According to latest data published by World Steel Association, the crude steel production by Oceania region dropped sharply by 6.3% during the month of January ‘16 year-on-year. The total output by the region dropped from 497,000 tonnes in January last year to 466,000 tonnes during Jan ‘16.

The total crude steel production by Australia during January this year was 418,000 tonnes, marginally lower by 1% when compared with the production of 422,000 tonnes during same month a year ago. New Zealand produced 48,000 tonnes of crude steel, lower by 36.2% when compared with the production of 75,000 tonnes achieved during January last year.

The total crude steel production by Australia during December last year was 382,000 tonnes, marginally lower by 2.2% when compared with the production of 391,000 tonnes during same month a year before. New Zealand produced 46,000 tonnes of crude steel, significantly lower by 35% when compared with the production of 71,000 tonnes achieved during December 2014.
