Profits Accelerate Slightly for China Secondary Lead Producers

Secondary lead producers registered growth in their profits in this past week with secondary lead smelters resuming operation.

SHANGHAI, Feb. 26 (SMM) – Secondary lead producers registered growth in their profits in this past week with secondary lead smelters resuming operation, SMM understood.

Secondary lead prices were mainly at 13,000-13,150 yuan per tonne this week and average price stood at 13,060 yuan per tonne, a rise of 60 yuan per tonne. On the other hand, average price of scrap motive batteries and automobile batteries (white shell) came in at 6,830 yuan per tonne and 7,355 yuan per tonne, up 30 yuan per tonne, all on the weekly basis. This increased smelting costs by 45-50 yuan per tonne, still leaving profitable room for smelters.

Some qualified secondary lead smelters raised purchase prices for scrap batteries due to supply tightness. Operating rates also went up with return of secondary lead smelters.
