South American crude steel output tumbled by 15% in January

According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by South American countries dropped sharply during the month of January this year.

SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by South American countries dropped sharply during the month of January this year. The total monthly output declined by 14.6% to 3.251 Million tonnes.

The total crude steel production by Argentina during January was 350,000 tonnes, down considerably by 9.3% than the January 2015 production of 386,000 tonnes. Brazil produced 2.451 Million tonnes of crude steel, dropping by 17.9% when compared to 2.985 Million tonnes production achieved during January last year. The Chilean January crude steel production recovered modestly by 2.2% from 98,000 tonnes in January ‘15 to 100,000 tonnes in January this year. The total crude steel production by Colombia rose nearly 8.8% to 80,000 tonnes in January this year.

Ecuador’s crude steel output jumped higher by 9.2% on year-on-year basis. The crude steel output by Ecuador was 50,000 tonnes in January this year, higher when matched with 46,000 tonnes during January last year.  Paraguay’s crude steel output skyrocketed by 354.5% from slightly more than 1,000 tonnes in Jan ’15 to nearly 5,000 tonnes in Jan ’16.

The crude steel output by Peru increased by 21.6% year-on-year. The crude steel output of Uruguay increased sharply from almost 1,000 tonnes a year before to 9,000 tonnes in January this year. Venezuelan production plunged heavily by 23.8% year-on-year from 131,000 tonnes to 100,000 tonnes.
