Global crude steel output drops 7.1% in Jan 2016

According to the most recent statistics published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by 66 member countries was 127.724 million tonnes (Mt) in January this year.

BRUSSELS (Scrap Monster): According to the most recent statistics published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by 66 member countries was 127.724 million tonnes (Mt) in January this year, down 7.1% upon comparison with production of 137.518 Mt during same month a year before.

The total crude steel production by EU-28 countries during January this year was 13.428 Million tonnes (Mt), sharply down by 7.6% than the January 2015 production of 14.537 Mt. Other European countries produced 2.785 Million tonnes of crude steel, marginally higher by 0.3% when compared to 2.776 Million tonnes production achieved during January 2015. The CIS countries’ crude steel production dropped by 5.3% from 8.599 Mt to 8.142 Mt. The total crude steel production by North America declined sharply by 7.6% from 10.039 Mt in January 2015 to 9.274 Mt in January this year.

The total crude steel production by South American region during January this year dropped sharply by 14.6% to 3.251 Mt. African countries produced 1.142 Million tonnes of crude steel, considerably lower by 14.9% when compared to 1.342 Million tonnes production achieved during January 2015. The total crude steel production by the Middle East countries during January this year was 2.061 Million tonnes(Mt), lower by 11.3% when compared with the January 2014 output of 2.324 Mt. The Asian countries’ crude steel production dropped by 6.9% from 93.596 Mt to 87.175 Mt. The total crude steel production by Oceania region too fell by 6.3% from 0.497 Mt in January 2015 to 0.466 Mt in January this year.
