Taiwan ferrous scrap imports down 2% in January

Taiwan's steel scrap imports reported marginal decline during the month of January this year.

BEIJING (Scrap Monster): The latest import statistics indicate that the ferrous scrap imports by Taiwan during January this year dropped marginally over the previous month.

The scrap imports by Taiwan during the month of January this year totaled over 171,000 tons. The imports dropped by nearly 2% when compared with the scrap imports during the month before. Taiwan had imported 174,000 tons of scrap during the month of December last year.

The largest scrap exporter to Taiwan during Jan ’16 was the United States. The scrap imports by Taiwan from the US totaled 56,293 tons. The scrap imports from the country accounted for almost one-third of the total scrap imports by Taiwan during the month. The second largest scrap exporter to Taiwan during the month was Japan. The imports from the country totaled 54,958 tons, accounting for approximately 32% of the total scrap imports by Taiwan during the month.

The scrap imports by the country are projected to exceed 2 million tons during the whole year 2016.
