CALGARY (Scrap Monster): The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) will collect old and unwanted computer equipment from residents of Calgary. The computers thus collected will be refurbished for reuse by refugees. According to sources, dozens of refugee families are expected to arrive in the city over the next few months. The collection initiative is being launched in partnership with the Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth (CBFY).
According to Bojan Paduh, founder and president of the ERA, the organization’s first priority would be to ensure supplies to charitable groups. He urged Calgary residents to increasingly take part in the campaign intended to collect computer equipment specifically for refugees. ERA aims to supply nearly 100 computers during current year to CBFY, to be distributed to refugee families.
“Most households and certainly businesses have unwanted or disused computer equipment, all we ask is that they give us a call, let us come pick it up and see if we can reuse it for the refugees arriving in Calgary this year,” urged Paduh.
The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is a non-profit organization founded in 2004 to address the growing problem of e-waste and the increasing ‘digital divide’. With a focus on recovery, refurbishment and reuse, ERA continuously supplies charitable groups with donated IT equipment while securely managing the retiring IT assets of organizations and individuals across Canada. ERA prevents unwanted computers, laptops and related electronic equipment from being prematurely destroyed or recycled by offering Canadian organizations and individuals secure, accessible disposal options for their unwanted electronics.
