LONDON (Scrap Register): Northern  Europe hot rolled cold (HRC) steel prices remained flat week-on-week at €323 per  ton in the week ended January 22, as per the latest figures released by The  Steel Index.

According to TSI, North European HR coil benchmark rebounded  €5 a ton on Friday to finish at €323 a ton ex-works, flat week-on-week.

A number of bookings  concluded later on in the week between €320-325 a ton with buyers indicating  recent price hikes from steel producers had a small effect on latest purchase  prices.

In Southern Europe, spot prices held steady at €290 a ton with  Italian mills securing orders at this stable price level.

Market  participants noted import offers were close to parity with domestic asking  prices in Southern Europe, lending support to orders from local mills.
