SHANGHAI, Jan. 31 (SMM) - An increasing number of Chinese secondary lead producers ceased production recently. Most of these producers plan to restart after February 22, SMM understands.

“Only a few producers, such as Anhui’s Huaxin Lead Industry Group, will only close for seven days for the holiday,” said one SMM lead analyst.

Domestic secondary lead producers refrained from selling after suspending production and stopped building scrap battery stocks.

“Downstream producers, especially SMEs have closed for the holiday. Those remaining in production also lacked interest in stockpiling,” the analyst explained.

Transportation problems and limited goods available were also attributable to scrap battery purchases by secondary lead plants.
