Most China Smelters Optimistic over Secondary Lead Prices

Six out of ten secondary lead producers in China hold positive outlook over secondary lead prices, SMM survey indicates.

SHANGHAI Jan. 21 (SMM) – Six out of ten secondary lead producers in China hold positive outlook over secondary lead prices, SMM survey indicates.

Secondary lead prices recently mainly range between 11,450-11,550 yuan per tonne.

Most secondary lead producers who shut down previously have not resumed operation due to environmental protection crackdowns. This leads to tight supply of secondary lead, bolstering prices.

Scrap battery supply gradually reduces in market with traders returning their home town for Chinese New Year holiday. Also, traders will be more willing to hold offers firm after scrap battery prices experienced a round of declines. Cost support will boost prices.

Small and medium lead-acid battery makers will possibly start vacation from mid to late January because of poor sales. As a matter of routine, they will hoard stocks before they start taking holidays.
