NEW YORK (Scrap Register): US HR coil prices advanced by $4 a short ton during the week ended January 08, while major US stainless steel and steel scrap commodities prices on Scrap Register Price Index stayed stable.
According to TSI, US Midwest HR coil prices ended the week higher at $383 a short ton FOB Mill. The first complete week of 2016 was predictably slow; however, rumors of further HRC price increases hit the market, with steelmakers hoping to pass on to their customers rising scrap input costs.
In other news, US Steel arrived at an agreement with the United Steel Workers Union (USW) in December, thought it appears that Allegheny Technologies and ArcelorMittal have returned to the bargaining table to continue negotiations.
The prices of major stainless steel scrap commodities like 201 SS, 301 SS, 309 SS, 310 SS and 330 SS showed a flat trend on Scrap Register US Price Index during the week.
However, the prices of major steel scrap commodities like #1 HMS, #1/#2 HMS 80/20 and steel casting also reported almost unchanged on Scrap Register US Price Index during the week.
