China Nickel Ore to Fall, SMM Predicts

Prices for medium and high-grade nickel ore are expected to face downward pressures, Shanghai Metals Market foresees.

SHANGHAI, Jun. 5 (SMM) – Prices for medium and high-grade nickel ore are expected to face downward pressures, Shanghai Metals Market foresees. 

“Buying interest in medium and high-grade ore is poor, and the market is on the shift to a buyers' market,” SMM nickel analyst says. 

Prices for low-grade nickel ore, however, are expected to hold stable, SMM adds. 

On Jan. 13, the price of Ni 0.9-1.0% ore was 135-155 yuan, 160-250 yuan for Ni 1.4-1.6%, and 350-400 yuan for Ni 1.8-1.9% ore, according to SMM data, all unchanged from a day earlier.
