SHANGHAI, Jan. 8 (SMM) - Combined zinc inventories in Shanghai, Tianjin and Guangdong added 8,900 to 335,200 tonnes this past week.
Shipments arriving in the three regions increased significantly after the New Year holiday. Goods releases after the holiday added to inventories in Tianjin and Guangdong, with outward shipments stable. Growth in zinc inventories in Shanghai was slight due to fewer inflows of imported zinc. Besides, downstream buyers purchased at lower prices.
Further growth in zinc inventories in the three regions is expected, SMM zinc analyst said. An increasing number of downstream producers slash output or shut down, while more goods are released from zinc smelters, the zinc analyst explained.
